Dandelooo, the French animation production and distribution company known for Stinky Dog, The Treehouse Stories, Mum is pouring rain, launches a new feature film divison.
Luna Sirvin, International Sales & Acquisitions Manager (feature films), takes the head of this new division. Dandeloo explains that she will will “oversee and expand Dandelooo Cinéma’s activities by acquiring, developing, producing, and marketing animated films.”
Dandelooo co-founder Emmanuèle Pétry explains that this move is a “natural progression for Dandelooo”, and that the company wants to “build and strengthen our content for global audiences.” The target audience remains the same: kids and families.
Dandelooo also highlights the fact that they just signed the international theatrical rights for three animated feature films:
- Hola Frida!, targeted at 5- to 9-year-olds, is a feature currently in production. It follows the fictional childhood story of “a little girl who is different. Her world is Coyoacan, Mexico City. Sparkling, vibrant, everything interests her and when difficulties arise, she faces them with an overflowing imagination. This little girl is called Frida Kahlo.”
The movie should be delivered in September 2024. It is produced by Haut et Court Distribution (France), Tobo Media (Canada), Du Coup Studio Production (Canada), and directed by Karine Vézina and André Kadi.
- Born in the Jungle, set for delivery in May 2025, follows nine-year-old Elisabeth during the school summer break. She “joins her family in the Venezuelan rainforest far away from their Latvian homeland. When Mum and Dad fly their plane to the city, Elisabeth volunteers to look after her four-year-old brother Leo. But soon Leo disappears in the thick dark jungle and Elisabeth must bring him back home before their parents return.”.
Aimed at upper preschool and families, the animated feature is produced by Atom Art (Latvia), Letko (Poland), Hausboot (Czech Republic) and directed by Edmunds Jansons.
- Last, but not least,Granny is a Tree! is an upcoming animated feature directed by Hugo de Faucompret. It is targeted at the 7+ age group and set for delivery in December 2025.
It focuses on the characters from Mum is pouring rain. Dandeloo explains: “Granny Onion, Jane’s whimsical grandmother, has taken one last eternal after-lunch nap. She wrote her last wish in a letter, but Cécile rules against it. Jane, on the other hand, has decided: she will set off on a wild escape to the edge of the tangible world, alongside her granny’s facetious ghost.”
The animated feature is produced by Laïdak Films (France, Germany), Dandelooo (France) and Doghouse Films (Luxembourg).
