Last night, the 96th Academy Awards ceremony took place in Hollywood, California. The big winner was the film Oppenheimer, which snagged multiple awards. Here are the prizes in categories related to visual effects and animation.

Best animated feature: an Academy Award for traditional animation

The Academy Award for Best animated feature film went to The Boy and the Heron directed by Hayao Miyazaki, produced by Toshio Suzuki. It should be highlighted that traditional 2D animation had not won an Academy Award in more than 20 years: in 2002, the Oscar went to… Spirited Away, also directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

The director did not attend the ceremony. Kiyofumi Nakajima, who currently manages Studio Ghibli, expressed his feelings to the press following the ceremony

Best visual effects: a roaring Godzilla

The Academy Award for the Best Visual Effects went to Godzilla Minus One. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito presented the statuettes to Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi, and Tatsuji Nojima.

Best animated short film: War Is Over!

Last, but not least, the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film went to War is Over! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko . This project, directed by Dave Mullins and Brad Booker, is inspired by the music of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It is produced by Yoko Ono Lennon and Sean Ono Lennon, co-produced by Lenono Music, ElectroLeague, WetaFX, Epic Games.
