Maya 2025: an update, not a revolution

Autodesk unveils Maya 2025, the latest version of their 3D software.

Here is an overview of what to expect:

  • A few modeling improvements, including Smart Extrude (first introduced in 3ds Max 2021),
  • An improved Motion Trails system,
  • Various rigging and animation improvements,
  • An updated, more intuitive Dope Sheet,
  • Arnold for Maya 5.4.0 (with performance improvements as showcased in the picture at the top of this article),
  • USD for Maya 0.27,
  • LookdevX for Maya 1.3.0 with support for MaterialX data format,
  • Bifrost 2.9.0.0, with new features such as new nodes for ocean waves,
  • Substance 2.5.0,
  • Bonus Tools are now included in the Maya installer.
