Benjamin Brosdau

3DVF : Hello and thanks you for you time Benjamin. First of all, can you present you to 3DVF lectors?

Sure, glad I could be here. My name is Benjamin Brosdau, I was born in Luebeck which is small town in the north of Germany. I am 25 years old and am using 3d graphics for a little more than 3 and a half years now.

3DVF : How did you discover Cg art and special effects ?

Well, I have always been fascinated by Cg art, but there was a certain moment when I discovered to try CG on my own when I saw the incredible intro visual from Polyphony Digitals famous Gran Turismo series for the first time. They really have set a new level back then and I decided to try it on my own sometime. However it still took a few years from then until I finally got started with my first PC and my first low budget 3D animation software.

3DVF : What are tools you prefer and why?

I discovered many tools but I stick to a few ones that I use daily and which comforts me best. I am using 3ds max since version 3.1 and it suits me extremely well, I am hardly in need for another 3d animation package, though I tried all major players out there (Alias Maya, Avid Softimage, SideFX Houdini etc.). My preferred render engine is Mental Ray especially since version 3.3, it appears to be the most versatile application and is extremely fast. Formerly I used Maxons C4D’s Advanced render a lot for its awesome GI engine, but most recently I added Next limits Maxwell render to expand my toolset.
On the 2D part I use Photoshop for all image postprocessing and texture painting and Adobe After effects for all animation purposes.

3DVF : Can you talk us more about the incredible picture of the kitchen ?

Sure. It was a part of an entire series of interior studies to try out Maxwell render’s capabilities in this field. I completed 9 images with varying light conditions and the results turned out pretty nice it seems. ?
