Here is the trailer for Fighter, an upcoming Indian feature film by Siddharth Anand (already known for movies such as War, Pathaan). This new franchise focuses on fighter jet pilots, with an aesthetic reminiscent of Top Gun:Maverick.
However, there is a big difference between these two movies. Top Gun : Maverick got promoted as a movie with “real” action sequences and very little CGI, if at all. A lie that was heavily criticized. Ironically, the movie later received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects.
Fighter, on the other hand, doesn’t hide the fact that CGI was used. Sure, the lower budget means that CGI isn’t as invisible in this trailer as it was in Top Gun: Maverick, but the striking detail is the fact that the credits screen shown at the end of the trailer explicitely states that VFX were handled by DNEG and ReDefine (which is part of the DNEG group).
The VFX supervisor is Vishal Anand (ReDefine). The movie will come out January 25 in India.
