French YouTuber Thomas Martin aka Gorkab (who also shot and edited the interviews recently published on our Youtube channel) has been working for more than a year on a documentary focused on Digital Productions, a pioneering VFX studio known for their work on The Last Starfighter (1984), 2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984), Labyrinth (1986).

The fist part of this documentary will be available in a few hours, and it focuses on Information International Inc aka Triple I, at the end of the 70s. Pioneers from this company would later be the heart of Digital Productions. The Triple I team worked on movies such as Westworld (1973), Looker (1981), TRON (1982).

As we explained above, the first part of the documentary will be available in a few hours. In the meantime, Thomas Martin shared with 3DVF (who co-produced the documentary) a short excerpt explaining how The Empire Strikes Back could have used animated spaceships. The video features CG X-Wings by Triple I, created to convince George Lucas to hire the company. Fate decided otherwise, as veterans from the studio explain…

And here’s the full Part 1 of the documentary. It will be available in a few hours, below on on YouTube.
