SIGGRAPH 2024: Activision Releases a Call of Duty: Warzone Map in OpenUSD!

At SIGGRAPH 2024, Activision announced the release of a Call of Duty: Warzone map, made available as an OpenUSD dataset. The map is massive and provided for non-commercial use, such as research/academic use.

What Does the Map Include?

Activision highlights that this map is one of the largest publicly available OpenUSD datasets. It contains 4GB of geometric data, over 5 million meshes, 28 million primitives, and a vast number of instances. The dataset also includes additional data such as player paths during a match.

The major appeal of this map is that it comes from a real studio: the data is from actual production, not an artificial dataset that doesn’t reflect industry practices.

Target audience

These data will primarily be used for research purposes. As an USD dataset, it can obviously be used in various ways, but Activision also emphasizes its potential for AI, which requires substantial training data. The data could also be useful for demos, experimentation, or training, whether you’re in school, a studio, or a lab.
For example, if you’re developing a USD viewer, this dataset would be a perfect real-world sample case to test your tool.

Activision hopes that this dataset will contribute to the development of new tools and stresses the importance of open source.
