france.tv studio, the production arm of France Télévisions, has acquired a majority stake in Dwarf Animation Studio. They are known for their work on My Dad the Bounty Hunter and Trash Truck, two animated series available on Netflix. Based in Montpellier, in the South of France, Dwarf was created about 13 years ago by Olivier Pinol.

This acquisition is announced as france.tv studio has just been granted an endowment by the French Ministry of Culture as part of La Grande Fabrique de l’Image, a call for projects that is part of the France 2030 initiative. The goal of La Grande Fabrique de l’Image is to boost French studios and school from the M&E industry (animation, live-action cinema, videogame companies, schools and more). The funds received by france.tv will allow them to create a new shooting and filming studio near Montpellier.

In other words, between the call for projects and the acquisition of Dwarf, france.tv will be investing a lot in the South of France.
france.tv studio highlights their interest for 3D animation created using real-time technology. As for Dwarf Animation, this announcement should translate into a strong pre-production offering.
