It’s been a while since we last discussed Black Ink, a digital painting solution featuring an advanced brush engine and the ability to handle large canvases.
The software has been developed by a duo of French developers (Géraldine Ricart and David Toyou) for about twelve years.
A few days ago, Black Ink was updated with new operators and bug fixes.
However, the biggest change in recent months is undoubtedly the introduction of a new business model.
The team faced two issues: a competitive market and a much more ambitious development than initially planned. Therefore, a dual change was made:
- The end of lifetime free updates: After 10 years of free updates, the duo behind the tool explained that the financial situation had become untenable. Adding tools and additional functions required significant work that could no longer be sustained under the current conditions. Hence the switch to paid updates. The 2023 version was offered at around $9 for those with a license.
- On the other hand, the price of the software is decreasing: around $35 for an individual license.
The official website will provide more details and allow you to download Black Ink to form your own opinion on the tool.
