Jen Yeh, artiste FX sous Houdini, présente sa nouvelle démoreel. On y trouvera des plans réalisés pour La Colère des Titans, Men in Black 3 et des tests techniques.

Breakdown :

Clip 1
Project: Wrath Of Titan
Comment: I created the dusts explosion on the cliff which is hitting by the giant hand also the steam which is bursting out the big hole. The animation of the cliff destruction was animated by animators, I manage to create velocity fields to represent interaction between rocks movements and dusts instead of a actual simulation of collision.

Clip 2
Project: Wrath Of Titan
Comment: I created dust explosion and trails on the giant rock which is breaking from the cliff next to the characters. Clip 3
Project: Norton Anti-Virus
Comment: I created the destruction dust and the furrows/cracking on the ground. There were three different type of movements for the dust, which were exploding, trailing and rolling. Furrow on the ground was a rigid body simulation, the trick was how to cut the geometry correctly, I had more small pieces close to the tanker, far were bigger pieces.

Project: Wrath Of Titan
Comment: I did smoke and lava trails, embers and fireballs. Lava trails were made by particles and turn into geometry, fireballs were actually geometrys from a volume and add animation to make it fireballs like. Smoke trails were fluid. The big challenge in these shots was the fireballs moving so fast, I only got less than 4 frames to create the effects, the fastest one was 2 frames.

Project: Wrath Of Titan
Comment: I created the lava steam in this shot. The challenge in this shot was the scene scale is huge and lave are everywhere and smoke need to emit from red hot part of lava. So I project the render images back to the geometry so I could get the source I needed, then I divided the simulation into several small manageable ones.

Clip 6
Project: Men In Black 3
Comment: Although this shot looks like a 2D effects, it was actually a lot of effects in it, like cloth, fluid particles, geometry fx animation. I created a wave movement water like using fluid particles to add details for the portal. I also in charge of rendered out all the passes for compositing.

Project: Men In Black 3
Comment: Although this shot also looks like a 2D effects, I created the melting effect on some furniture. I also in charge of rendered out all the passes for compositing.

Clip 8
Project: Norton Anti-Virus
Comment: I created the dust in this shot, pretty straight forward, only thing I needed to focus on was the continuity between two shots.

Clip 9
Project: Skull
Comment: I did everything is this shot except compositing.

Project: Seeker
Comment: I did everything is this shot except compositing.

A python script automatically builds a rope simulation by using RBD.

Comment:
Python scripts export Maya camera data and read by Houdini.

Comment:
Python scripts export animation data from RBD OBJS in Houdini and apply animation on same OBJS in Maya

A mel script which can generate Rose curve.
